The Ayedun Village Director of Health Services, Mr. Joshua, who had been summoned to the Divisional Directorate of Health for a meeting, returned to the village to give feedback to the Ayedun Village Health Committee. He informed the members of the Committee of the new directive to increase user fees for health services.
The members of the Village Health Committee were unhappy with the directive and they challenged Director Joshua to tell them the reason behind the decision. Director Joshua, after some hesitation informed them that he had been told by his superiors that Globalization (which he mispronounced) was responsible for the increase.
Confused by this long word and because no word in the local language ends in -tion, the villagers after trying to pronounce “globalization” in different misspelt combinations finally settled for Gombii. Globalization became Gombii.
Kasali, a jobless illiterate and a wanderer arrived in Morikuyeri Estate one late afternoon. There had been many cases of burglaries in the estate. On the night of his arrival, he mysteriously arrested all the burglars who had been troubling the estate.
The Exco decided to make Kasali the guard of the estate. He worked all alone. Kasali, gave himself the title of Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the estate and all by himself, compiled a long list of regulations and punishments (for default) for the residents. Armed with his own rules, Kasali soon started interfering in the lives of the residents. There was an instant when a man had a misunderstanding with his wife. Kasali went to the man’s house and beat him up.
Soon, he started to openly defy the members of the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the Estate and subjected them to his own rules too.
Kasali used different intrigues to subjugate the residents of the estate and to make them accept all the demands he placed upon them. He organized his own kidnap and subjected the residents to pay up the ransom which he personally collected. He ordered all the residents to submit their original Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) of their lands to him under the guise of safekeeping.
He ultimately saw off some members of the ExCo to jail and took over the leadership of the estate.
